Market UK 2008-2012”. The report is comprehensive,
informed and up-to-date and represents an invaluable aid to
sales and marketing professionals involved in the industry.
Available to purchase for £625 from

this report analyses the UK market for lamps, luminaires and
lighting controls and is based on a combination of primary and
secondary research.

The report
analyses the industry in terms of market size, key sector trends,
product mixes, key suppliers and distribution channels.
The market is in a
mature phase of its lifecycle, being primarily dependent on
replacement applications and as such has experienced relatively
lacklustre growth in recent years, with the market in 2007 growing
by just under 3% to reach a value of £1.54 billion.
To 2012, prospects
are reasonably positive, with the market expected to achieve a value
of around £1.73 billion, reflecting growth at, or around
inflationary levels in overall terms, though the deteriorating UK
economy is likely to limit the growth in the shorter term while the
medium to longer term is likely to be stimulated by construction
programmes such as the Olympics and major government capital
investment.
Product
development is one key area which should offer the market some
optimism in the short term, with innovation in the LED sector and a
number of developments in the luminaires market providing good
opportunities in terms of both new build and replacement
applications. These developments have also been buoyed by the
growing focus on energy efficiency, both in terms of reducing the
environmental impact of lighting as well as reducing operational
costs. With traditional or basic GLS lamps due to be phased out by
2011, other versions of GLS, long life equivalents, CFL and LED lamp
markets should experience some stimulus.
In terms of
product mix, lamp sales in 2007 were estimated to reach around £385
million, reflecting relatively static market performance in value
terms, whilst the luminaires market grew by around 3% to around
£1.04 billion. By 2012, lamp sales are likely to be modestly up at
£399m, whilst the luminaires sector is forecast to achieve better
growth and sales of around £1.19 billion in 2012.
