Research have recently published a new report covering the "Active and
Passive Fire Protection Market UK 2007”. The report is comprehensive,
informed and up-to-date and represents an invaluable aid to sales and marketing
professionals involved in the industry. Available to purchase for £625 from
www.amaresearch.co.uk,
this report analyses the UK market for active and passive fire protection
products and is based on a combination of primary and secondary research. The
report analyses the sector in terms of market size, key sector trends, product
mixes, key suppliers and distribution channels.
While a difficult market to define, the overall market is
estimated at around £1.25 billion and the report includes a review of fire
protection systems, fire doors, intumescent seals, door hardware, fire resistant
cable, suspended ceilings, glass, ductwork and damper systems etc. The Fire
Protection market is regarded as relatively mature and is influenced by a number
of factors including the general health of the economy, levels of business /
consumer confidence and spending, changing Building Regulations and Standards
and, most significantly, the underlying performance of the UK building and
construction market.
The active fire protection market, which comprises of alarms and
extinguishers / sprinkler systems, was estimated at nearly £400m in 2006 with
the majority of the sector
accounted for by alarms and detection systems. Most installations of alarms and
detection equipment are within the commercial, industrial and public markets,
though domestic smoke detectors and fire alarms systems account for a small
share in terms of value.
The passive fire protection market is estimated at around £850m,
with fire doors the largest sector having experienced steady growth in recent
years to around £330m. Timber fire doors represent around 75% of the total
sector, although there are indications that steel fire doors have experienced
faster growth in recent years. The fire door fittings market is very
fragmented and incorporates many product sectors, with door closers a key
sector. The main areas of growth in recent years have been the commercial market
and newbuild housing (particularly with the switch to apartments where there is
much higher demand for passive fire products).
Fire resistant cabling has grown steadily at around 3-5% over the
last few years while the market for fire resistant glass has almost doubled over
the last decade.
The supply and distribution structure for fire protection
products is extremely fragmented reflecting the different products, end use
applications, specification and buying processes.
The overall fire protection market should experience steady
underlying growth, driven by a number of factors including increases in the in
both domestic and non domestic construction - particularly in high-rise new
housing, offices, health and education sectors in the short-medium term future.
