INTRODUCTION and OVERVIEW

“Non-Domestic Construction and RMI Forecasts Bulletin – GB” is published four times a year and the 12th edition is now available. The bulletin provides a quarterly review of the non-domestic construction sector containing the very latest statistics and information, together with medium and longer term forecasts updated to take account of recent changes.

Construction Sectors Covered Include:-

COMMERCIAL INDUSTRIAL
EDUCATION RETAIL
INFRASTRUCTURE LEISURE AND ENTERTAINMENT
HEALTH AGRICULTURE AND MISCELLANEOUS

From Q1 2010, the Office for National Statistics has changed its data collection and analysis methods for the construction sector in order to satisfy the need for greater harmonisation across the EU.  These changes to data collection and analysis have meant that historical data back to 1955 has also been amended to reflect the new requirements.  Therefore this edition of the Bulletin has been produced using the new (Q1 2010) data with historical data also changed to the new data collection and analysis method.  Tables and charts have been included in the Appendix to this edition to illustrate the changes for each sub-sector of the non-domestic construction market to show both old data (up to Q4 2009) and the new data.  Future editions of this Bulletin will only include new data.

Each Issue covers:

  • Recent and current trends in the construction industry in Great Britain

  • Changes in output overall and by sector

  • Major new orders and large scale projects

  • Revised forecasts based on the latest statistics and information available

  • Key influencing factors: GDP growth, inflation, interest rates etc.

  • Impact of government strategy and review
