Research have recently published the 8th edition of the "UK Domestic Heating
Market Report”. The report is comprehensive, informed and up-to-date and
represents an invaluable aid to sales and marketing professionals involved in
the industry. Available to purchase for £625, this report analyses the UK
market for domestic heating products and is based on a combination of primary
and secondary research. The report analyses the market in terms of market size,
key sector trends, product mixes, market share, key suppliers, customers and
distribution channels.
There are three key product sectors included in the report,
featuring central heating (including boilers, radiators, controls and
pumps), space heating (including electric, gas and other) and water
heating (including electric, gas fired water heating and gas storage water
heating). Each of these markets is assessed in total and by sub-product group,
incorporating market sizes, trends, forecasts, key suppliers and distribution
channels.
The market has benefited from increasing
energy efficiency legislation and health & safety and
Revised Building Regulations,
also environmental legislation, which has stimulated product innovation and
development. In particular the boiler sector has been affected by the
requirements of the revised Building Regulations calling for the installation of
high efficiency gas condensing boilers from April, 2005, also high efficiency
oil-fired boilers from April 2007.
The continuing trend in New Build to construct flats is likely to
have mixed implications for gas and electric boilers. While the smaller types of
gas and electric boilers are eminently suitable for single living accommodation,
the heating load is likely to be less than that of a house.
Factors likely to have a negative influence on the Market include
the continuing trend to higher levels of insulation, driven by revised
part ‘L’ of the building regulations, which will reduce the overall domestic
heating load required. Conversely there are a number of product innovations
which may contribute to market growth in many sectors of the UK Domestic Heating
Market, ranging from integrated solar thermal systems, also ground
source and air source heat pumps, and high capacity storage combi’s,
to fan assisted fuel-effect radiators, and the wider application of wireless
technology.
Also, other factors underpinning growth include
niche-specific opportunities in certain sectors of the market – for example,
growth in the self-build and conservatory markets, also additional
motivation for the cylinder, pump and controls sectors arising from the
development of integrated solar thermal systems, a continuing trend to
power showering, likely to fuel growth in storage combi’s, accumulators,
and pressurised cylinders in general
AMA’s report also provides an insight into future prospects for
the domestic heating products market, and states that although the market is not
likely to experienced significant growth in 2007/08, it should progressively
grow by a nominal amount.
The builders and plumbers’ merchants remain key players in the
distribution of Domestic Heating products while electrical wholesalers and,
to a lesser extent, the DIY Multiples, are also involved in the distribution of
certain Domestic Heating Product Sectors- for example, electric water heating
products, fans and solar panels. The report includes the profiles of the main
builders’ merchants, DIY multiples, and independent hardware and DIY stores,
with their respective market shares. Also addressed are the key suppliers in
each of the main product sectors with brief profiles, market shares and
commentary.
