AMA Research have published a new report covering
the "Energy Efficient Lighting Market UK 2007”.The report is
comprehensive, informed and up-to-date and represents an invaluable aid
to sales and marketing professionals involved in the industry.
Available to purchase for £625, this report analyses the UK market for
energy efficient lighting products and is based on a combination of
primary and secondary research. The report analyses the sector in terms
of market size, key sector trends, product mixes, key suppliers and
distribution channels.
While difficult to define, the overall market for energy
efficient lighting is estimated to be around £200m in 2007 and has
witnessed healthy levels of growth over the last two years buoyed by a
range of new Directives and legislation, coupled with growing consumer
awareness and concerns towards environmental issues, specifically
concerning the use of energy and minimising carbon emissions.
Other factors that have benefited the market over the
last two years include increasing energy costs, coupled with better
education with regards to the benefits achieved with energy efficient
products. In addition, a number of schemes and subsidy programmes aimed
at promoting energy efficiency in the home and improvements to products,
both in terms of design and in technical performance, have also
stimulated strong market growth.
The report reviews the market in terms of lamps and
luminaires, and focuses on both the domestic and more dominant
non-domestic markets, which accounts for around 65% of the market.
Sectors are assessed in terms of market size, trends, key drivers and
prospects for growth up to 2011.
Product development may lead to a change in the market
structure in the medium term future, and LEDs, which are widely
considered to be one of the most promising ‘pending’ technologies, are
expected by some to ‘reach or exceed the level of CFLs in the UK market’
soon after 2010.
The supply of energy efficient lamps is dominated by four
global companies although below that the market is fragmented with
numerous smaller independent manufacturers all operating within the
sector. Supply of luminaires is much more fragmented, with a large
number of suppliers operating within the market.
Future growth rates should be attractive, though are very
much dependent on consumer attitudes, although the current interest in
energy conservation and reducing carbon emissions should be a key market
driver. The announcement this year, regarding the voluntary phasing out
of the most inefficient GLS lightbulbs by 2011 and the proposed schedule
for their withdrawal from the UK market is expected to be one of the
major growth accelerators over the next few years, with retailers such
as ASDA, B&Q, the Co-operative Group, Home Retail Group, IKEA and
Woolworths all supporting the initiative.
