Research have published an updated report covering the "Prefabricated
Volumetric Buildings Market”. The report is comprehensive, informed
and up-to-date and represents an invaluable aid to sales and marketing
professionals involved in the industry. Available to purchase for £625,
this report analyses the UK market for prefabricated volumetric
buildings and is based on a combination of primary and secondary
research. The report analyses the sector in terms of market size, key
sector trends, product mixes, key suppliers and distribution channels.
Currently valued at around £600m, the UK prefabricated
volumetric buildings market has experienced positive growth during the
last two years, underpinned by a buoyant construction market and a high
level of government expenditure in sectors such as health and education.
In addition, an extensive MOD procurement programme for volumetric
buildings and the modernisation of single living accommodation has
benefited the sector.
The market has been characterised by a move towards
increasingly comprehensive value added building systems and solutions,
which are becoming more customer orientated.
Key application areas for volumetric buildings include
the hire sector at around 40%, with healthcare and education accounting
for a combined share of over 25%. Hotels, MoD, commercial and industrial
markets are also key sectors with the expansion of cellular construction
and single living accommodation applicable in several key sectors.
Pressure on inner space and development in high density
areas has seen advancements in stacked and multi storeys aimed at
minimising disruption to sites where space is at a premium. Relatively
recent product innovation in the steel volumetric modular sector
includes products with capabilities of up to 18 storeys which has
significant positive implications for the development of high density
accommodation, though competition from other ‘systems’ in the
residential sector is intense.
Current forecasts suggest healthy levels of growth, with
the market surpassing the £800m mark by 2010, aided by factors such as
Olympic Games infrastructure construction and growth in niche sectors.
Medium term prospects, however, will be heavily influenced by changing
attitudes of specifiers in terms of the relative merits of alternative
‘offsite’ systems, whether volumetric or panel systems (timber / steel
framing, SIPs, concrete etc).
