The market for wood/laminate floorcoverings was
estimated to be worth £374 million in 2006 with annual growth forecast
at between 4-5%
over the 2007-2010 period, according to the fourth
edition of the “Wood/Laminate Floorcoverings Market 2007”
recently published by AMA Research.
The report, which is available for
purchase at £625 reviews the wood floorcoverings market in the UK,
providing a comprehensive analysis of the wood and laminate sectors and
a brief overview of the overall floorcoverings market. The report
provides analysis of the laminates, solid and engineered wood sectors in
terms of size, major trends and key influences on the market, product
mix, profiles of the main suppliers and distribution channels with their
respective market share and forecasts of future performance to 2010.
The report indicates that the
wood/laminate floorcoverings market experienced only moderate growth in
2006 following an overall decline in 2005. A key factor in the
performance of the market is the laminate sector which declined in both
value and volume terms in 2005 due to the slowdown in the DIY market and
constraints on consumer spending. Despite the poor performance of the
laminate sector the market for solid/engineered products continued to
perform well.
In 2006, the laminate market
stabilised as consumers moved towards higher quality products. The
solid/engineered sector continued to experience strong growth in 2006
partly reflecting growing price competitiveness as a result of declines
in average prices. As a result, there has been a further change in the
product mix as the solid/engineered wood sector continues to perform
well, with indications they should continue to take market share from
laminates. The contract market also experienced good growth in 2006
although there has been varying levels of performance in different
sectors.
AMA’s report also provides an
insight into the future prospects for the wood/laminate floorcoverings
market. Indications are that the market as a whole will experience only
moderate growth between 2007 and 2010, with medium term prospects
dependent on the housing market and consumer confidence, as well as
continuing preference among consumers for “wood flooring” at the expense
of carpet and vinyl.
