The UK floorcovering market has seen growth in recent years, with an estimated 4% increase in 2022. This growth is expected to continue for the next few years, with predictions of steady growth until 2027. However, there may be a slight slowdown in 2023, as MSP market size is expected to remain the same as 2022. The floorcoverings market, like many other industries, has faced a number of challenges over the past few years. This includes Covid-19, Brexit and ensuing supply chain disruption, further exacerbated by the Ukraine war, resulting in rising costs. This has led some manufacturers to increase their stockholding in the UK. Whilst this improves the availability of popular products, closer to UK consumers, it also brings the risk of more cash being tied up in stock. Significant increases in raw materials costs, notably wood, have also led to manufacturing price increases, some of which have had to be passed on to customers.

The floorcoverings market is set within the context of the domestic and contract housing sectors, both New Build and Repair, Maintenance & Improvement (RMI). Both these sectors are heavily influenced by the performance of the economy, which in turn impacts upon levels of consumer spending and wider investment in different types of buildings or major refurbishments. Government strategies and policies can also direct business investment for the medium to long term, such as support for new housebuilding activity or building new hospitals and schools, all of which require floorcoverings.
