The UK pipes and fittings market has achieved good growth over the last 5 years, though the rate of growth has slowed in the last two years. Key factors influencing market growth in recent years include increasing levels of demand from key end-use sectors, principally in new housebuilding and non-domestic construction, and rises in raw material prices such as copper and plastic over the last two years.
The plumbing pipe systems sector accounts for some 58% of the pipes and fittings market, while the rainwater, soil and waste products sector accounts for the remaining share.
Future prospects for the pipework market are fairly positive though somewhat unsettled, given the uncertainty surrounding the impact of EU departure on the UK’s economic situation. In the medium term, the market for pipes and fittings is likely to be largely reliant on the residential sector, as private construction in the commercial sector remains affected by fragile business confidence in the wake of the Brexit referendum, whilst public sector construction remains subject to constraints on government spending.
