In the 2015-17 period, sales of bedroom furniture grew at a slower rate than the overall domestic furniture market, nevertheless, the share of the total market held by the bedroom sector remained relatively stable in that time.

The market declined in 2018, possibly as a result of Brexit fears and was most notable for a sharp drop in imports, however, there was a strong recovery in 2019, with imports rebounding to reach a record level.

Storage is a key issue for most UK householders and its importance is not diminishing, since space within the average UK home remains limited, particularly in the bedroom. This lack of space has resulted in the growing popularity of sliding wardrobe door systems, either as part of a fully fitted system or a semi-fitted unit.

Other factors have had a negative impact on sales of bedroom furniture, for example, the increase in home working can place pressure on living space within the dwelling, with spare bedrooms often used as office space. The current pandemic is likely to result in a permanent increase in home working.
