The UK commercial glazing market increased by 9% during 2021, reflecting recovery from the impact of Covid-19. Some product categories experienced a sharper rise than others.
The UK commercial glazing market is heavily dependent on the construction industry and output, that was hit hard during the pandemic – This has resulted in the abrupt decline of the market size value for commercial glazing. According to the Office of National Statistics, construction output fell by 35% in the first quarter of 2020 – 2021, including a 33.4% decline in private commercial output. Being an unprecedented disruption, construction output in the United Kingdom in 2021 was still lower than it was before the pandemic.
Energy efficiency & increased performance. As a result of the Future Homes Standard, the building regulations are being revised to incorporate more energy efficient performance into new-built dwellings. This means that better UW values will need to be achieved when installing glazing systems, future proofing these homes to ensure they surpass regulations for many years to come.
There has been significant investment from private equity firms in recent years in window fabrication companies. This is partly because of the concentration of acquisition-based growth by larger companies in the market.
